Thank you for choosing Eudora! In order to facilitate your transition to Eudora, we have included the ability to import data from other email applications. When you first start up Eudora, or at any time after that when you choose the "Import Mail..." command from the File menu, Eudora will allow you to select mail from another application, and import it so you can use it in Eudora.
Hints:
* If you are importing a large amount of email from another application, you may have to increase Eudora's memory partition in the Finder.
If you will be importing mailboxes from another application that contain hundreds or thousands of messages, do the following:
1. Locate the Eudora application inside of the Eudora Application Folder, and select it.
2. Choose "Get Info" from the File menu.
3. On some newer systems, you may have to navigate to the "Memory" section of the window that appears.
4. Enter a larger number in the "Preferred Memory Size" box. If you're importing thousands and thousands of messages, this number should be about 10MB or more. This should do the trick.
* If Eudora fails to import some of your contacts, mailboxes, or messages from Outlook Express 5.0 or Claris Emailer 2.0, compacting and rebuilding the database might help.
To compact and rebuild your CE20 database, start up Claris Emailer 2.0, and hold down the option key. A dialog will be displayed asking if you would like a Typical Rebuild or an Advanced Rebuild. Choose "Advanced Rebuild" and allow Emailer to rebuild your database.
To compact and rebuild your OE5 database, start up Outlook Express 5.0, and hold down the option key. Or, select the identity you wish to use when OE5 starts up, and hold down the option key as you press the Open button.
Compacting your database in either application can take some time if your database is very large. But it will increase the number of messages the Eudora importer will recognize.
